Jean-Michel Escoffre accepts this award for his work in the field of new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Despite the development of new drugs that are potentially beneficial for the treatment of neuropathologies, very few of these molecules reach the development phase leading to their introduction on the market. Indeed, although they retain their effectiveness, the majority of these therapeutic molecules cause undesirable effects on the healthy tissues. Another limitation is the blood-brain barrier that exists between blood vessels and the brain. Indeed, this barrier limits the passage of 95% of potentially therapeutic molecules present in the blood to the brain, limiting their use for the treatment of neuropathologies. The specific delivery of therapeutic molecules to the brain continues to constitute a major challenge for the treatment of neuropathologies. We propose here some important works on the use of ultrasound and contrast agents for the delivery of molecules in the brain.
